Stretch yourself beyond what you think is possible
The Law of the Rubber Band says, “If you want to go to the next level, you have to get stretched.”
The famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, he designed beautiful homes, building and amazing structures. One day a reporter asked him, “Of all the designs that you’ve created. Which one is your favorite?”
And without missing a beat, Frank Lloyd said, “My next one.”
Frank Lloyd Wright definitely understood the principle of stretching. Instead of looking at the ones he had created he looked at the ones he had yet to create, already confident that it was going to be good. He was always looking forward , moving and never staying in one place.
If you want to accomplish the goals that you have written for 2021, both short and long term ones, you have to get ready to be stretched. Because staying in one place will not help you accomplish anything, you need to keep moving. You must get ready to be uncomfortable..
For a long time, I remained in my comfort zone. I did not want to leave this cottage that had all my comfort supplies. But because of this, I was like a car that was gaining dust from not being used.
I gained all sorts of dust; dust of hatred, dust of bitterness of life, all sorts of dusts settled on me.
Nothing in life will change until you make the decision to change.”
So, what about you? Are you going to start stretching?
Or have you already started?
I know I did, I stretched myself in areas I avoided. It was hard and uncomfortable, but like an arrow, it cannot hits it’s target without the bowstring being pulled back. Without stretching, you will only stay one in place.
There are three things that could be holding you back from stretching.
1. You could be telling yourself that you are not enough.
“I am not good enough, I’m not skinny enough, I am not smart enough, I am not rich enough.”
2. You might be telling yourself that you are different.
There are two types of different. One is in a good way. “I am different and that makes me special”, and this is does not stop you from stretching.
This one is the intimidating difference, you let the voices around you tell you that your difference isn’t allowed here, you feel like you don’t fit in and people put you down because of that. So you do what anyone does, you stay still, never moving and learning to get uncomfortable.
3. You probably are telling yourself “It is not for me, I can’t do that.” “That success is not for me, that job is not for me.”
Let me share a story that inspired me, and I hope that it will inspire you too.
Lizzie Velasquez was once called the ugliest girl in the world. She was blind on one eye, and she had a rare syndrome that prevented her from gaining weight.
The once called ugliest girl in the world now calls herself something different. She is now making a difference, inspiring others by sharing her story.
It is time for you to make a difference in your self. It is time for you to start stretching. Remember someone out there in the world in waiting for you to stretch and help them.
Yes, stretching is going to hurt, and I mean hurt so much that, you will want to give up. But trust me, it will be worth it. And as you keep going you will get used to it, until stretching and continually moving will be a habit that if you stop you will get uncomfortable being comfortable.
So, what are you doing to do to stretch yourself? What are you going to do that makes you different?
